Jaguar Santa Cruz, CA
Jaguar is an off shoot of the very popular Cafe Campesino kiosk in downtown Santa Cruz. When the owner wanted to expand into a larger restaurant, Stripe was commissioned to design their interior. This farmhouse style Mexican restaurant went into a quaint building in midtown, but it needed sprucing up to make it a functional restaurant. Stripe added serape inspired banquette seating along the sides of the restaurant that become the focal point of the design. The walls were painted London gray and burned sienna and a skinny mirror was added above the banquet so that the diners sitting facing the wall can signal wait staff. This simple upgrades and an updated exterior and Jaguar was ready to start serving their loyal fan base.
Jaguar began with inspiration taken from beautiful serape textiles and built upon that to create a bold minimalist scheme, save for the textile which adds the needed dose of texture and pattern to the scheme.
